Padi TEC REC Side mount training at the beginning of the month at Buddies Dive Cove, in Bugibba Malta,
Was Fantastic we had 3 English lads out just for the +PADI TECREC 45 Side mount program that lasted 4 days, So on Day 1 in the classroom with Ian,Frank & Gordon, setting up +Hollis Dive kit Kattana & SMS75 along with some Diamond wings as well.. They had all trained with me for TEC REC 40 back mount and this was the next step!
So once all the theory was done it was time to put it all into practice! so they choose their units and started setting them up! with bit of help from moi! they got it sorted and tanks as well! some choose steel while some preferred to stay on aluminum and we headed to the water for the first dive in 2 meters for them to get use to the kit and be comfortable!. And it was fun watching them for the first time in side mount!
Armed with side mount & 2 stage cylinders, went through the full process of clipping and un-clipping till they were happy! then came the S-Drill(safety drill) that was great! now came the rest of the skills and they went fabulously, just bit problem with buoyancy but who doesn't on the first dive!
By the second dive they had re adjusted the units and tried again wow 80% better but still room for improvement!
So back in class again and more theory and practical dry runs in the classroom and exams wow exams, and they all sailed it! so final day, Off to Cirkewwa to the P29 mine sweeper 39 meters then headed extra 20 meters off her to 43 meters and the fun started with sac rate swim, on the way up out of the dive out of air situations, lost mask, all at a steady pace for them to understand this can happen at any time.
Once the skills have been mastered in shallow water, its time to head down for the final dive's making sure buoyancy and trim is kept 100% during dive 3 & 4, and when trained properly you can achieve any goal! So don't say yes to less!.
